What were your duties as an NCLA intern? I collaborate with the attorneys on a variety of legal research projects on issues concerning the First Amendment and the Fourth Amendment. Additionally, I worked on drafting amicus briefs.

What did you most enjoy about your internship? Getting to know other clerks and collaborating with them. I also enjoyed working on cases that have big impacts on peoples’ lives with the attorneys by applying the knowledge and skills I acquired in law school.

What interesting thing(s) did you learn about Administrative Law? The irony of having administrative law judges that have no place in the Constitution. Additionally, the litigation strategies that are used to challenge the administrative agencies and other things that are constantly used in the real world are never taught in law schools.

How might you use what you’ve learned later in your professional career? Collaborating with attorneys and drafting concise and practical legal documents by sharpening my legal research and writing skills.

Any advice for other students who want to intern at NCLA in the future? I would advise the students to work on the cases that they know nothing about and the areas of law that they’ve never explored. Of course, you’ll never know if you’re interested in something without getting into it. It may be out of your comfort zone, but it will push you to be a better researcher and writer. Also, never fear asking questions and keep learning from the attorneys. They are more than happy to teach you everything you need to know.
